We hope the holiday season was relaxing for you! As you begin to settle back in we hope that you will plan to JOIN US AT THE TABLE as the Minnesota State IT Center for Excellence continues to move Information Technology forward throughout the State of Minnesota!

There are a number of events and projects in the works for 2019 that you will find beneficial as you continue to look for innovative and dynamic ways to move student learning forward!

SIGCSE Technical Symposium 2019

February 27 – March 2 in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The SIGCSE Technical Symposium is the largest worldwide computing education conference organized by ACM SIGCSE. It attracts over 1,500 researchers, educators, and others interested in improving computing education in K-12 and higher education.

This year SIGCSE 2019 is being held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Minneapolis and includes sessions like:

  • Understanding Who Enrolls in Introductory Computing Courses at Community Colleges
  • Approaches for Coordinating eTextbooks, Online Programming Practices and More into one Course
  • Redesigning a Software Development Course as a Preparation for a Capstone
  • Propagating Educational Innovations
  • Process Skills in Computer Science
  • Cybersecurity Program Accreditation: Benefits and Challenges
  • Active Learning with LEGO for Software Requirements
  • Teaching Android Mobile Security
  • Living-Learning Community for Women in Computer Science
  • Sports Analytics as a Context for Computational Thinking in K-12 Education and so many others!

Over 200 Presentations, Panel Discussions, and Interactive events are scheduled throughout the week!

MN STATE IT COE – LUNCH and LEARN – March 1, 2019, 12-1:45pm

MN State IT Center of Excellence will also be at SIGCSE 2019 and will have a Lunch Meeting on March 1st from 12 – 1:45pm. We invite you to JOIN US AT THE TABLE as we explore our 2019 strategies, give an overview presentation on our New Career Readiness Modules, and begin to engage faculty for New Directions Summer/Fall 2019_2020 Opportunities. More information regarding the location will be provided in February 2019, but we would love to see you there!

MN STATE IT COE – NEW DIRECTIONS IN IT, FACULTY CONFERENCE – May 15-17, 2019

The 2019 Faculty Conference is just 5 months away and we are in the process of developing our agenda. One thing we do know is that ALL Faculty engagement for summer 2019_2020 will need to be contracted and determined by April 5, 2019! YES, before the conference! 

With the changes/adjustments to how we engage faculty for Summer and Fall Semester work, we are going to need any and all faculty work proposals submitted by April 5, 2019 with final approvals and contracts signed completed before May 20, 2019.

Curriculum Modules

After 12 months of work we now have Course Modules ready for use in career readiness, cyber and data! More information will be provided in the next few months. A session on “How to Use Curriculum Modules” will happen at New Directions 2019! We are currently Piloting our Career Readiness Modules which will be ready for full Launch by August 2019_2020 Semester!

As you can see, there are a number of opportunities to engage and be part of the 2019/2020 Minnesota State IT Center of Excellence events and programs! Each of you have a host of skills, talents, ideas, and energy so we invite you to JOIN US AT THE TABLE!
