MNAiC Summer 2022 Internships Hit the Minnesota Mark

This marks the 10th year that Minnesota businesses and Minnesota Aspirations in Computing (MNAiC) Honorees have mutually benefitted from a powerful mixture of technology work experiences. Since 2013 nearly 100 interns have been employed by MNAiC sponsor companies.

This summer 18 high school students who identify as women, genderqueer, or non-binary, demonstrated their stellar technical and professional workplace skills, helping 7 companies fulfill numerous projects of high value.   Interns were typically 8-10 weeks in length and were a mixture of fully remote to in-person and remote (hybrid).

The MNAiC program invited 47 state and national top-level honorees to apply.  26 honorees expressed interest and were provided training and other resources to apply and prepare for their interviews.  Of those, 18 were awarded an internship.  Please note that the 8 non-selected honorees were highly capable of performing the intern roles however there was and insufficient number of intern offerings to match the supply of exceptional technology talent.

The MNAiC employer engagement committee is addressing this issue by inviting businesses to attend an October 5 breakfast meeting at Target Field in Minneapolis to learn more about the program and how to tap this incredible source of diverse talent today while strategically establishing a tech talent pipeline that addresses future hiring needs.

Each summer the participating interns are showcased and celebrated for their summer work, and their future Science, Technology, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) continuing education and career plans.  This link provides a rare opportunity for the public to observe these exceptional individuals in action as they briefly present and discuss their summer work. Take a closer look and listen to these awe-inspiring students.  Discover the many benefits they have provided to MNAiC sponsor companies and to the Minnesota economy.
