Join MN State IT Center of Excellence and Pawel Buda, Faculty member at South Central College as we learn about GITHUB options and learning events.
GitHub is a development platform inspired by the way you work. From open source to business, you can host and review code, manage projects, and build software alongside 40 million developers! (https://github.com/)
We will define Git version control and illustrate how to get up and running with Git and one of the most popular tool for it, GitHub platform. Next, the attendees will use Git and GitHub to set sample Git repositories. We will use these repositories to experiment with the main features of version control, including remotes, pushing & pulling, branching, and merge conflicts. We will then employ the GitHub Classroom product for teamwork activities to demonstrate the recommended Git workflow that you can later use with your students.
We will also explain GitHub for Education resources, including Campus Experts that engages the students and Campus Advisors training and certification that enables college faculty to leverage GitHub in their classrooms for learning activities and code assessments and allows them to get free enterprise-level access to the GitHub platform.
Bring your laptop. GitHub is primarily used by programmers but we won't be focusing on writing any code in this training. We will use sample text files only to demonstrate how Git and GitHub works.
